Lindsy Halleckson New Work
For my Between the Lines and Precision Cut series, I visually relate color and sound. Tone and color are both transmitted through wavelengths, and because of this, all colors have corresponding tones. For example, a rainbow could be translated into an audible scale. In previous works, I have maintained a fairly monochromatic palette not wanting to compromise the integrity of each color. With this work, I juxtapose and stack colors like layers of sound, creating chords of harmony or dissonance. I couple colors just off complimentary color schemes to create uncomfortable “clash” groupings of color. These screaming “clash” paintings depict a Philip Glass-meets-Mondrian type organized craziness and delve into Newton’s scale of color.
